Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm & Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book: Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm & Ruin and Rising

Author: Leigh Bardugo

Publication Date: 5th June 2012, 4th June 2013 & 17th June 2014

What a whirlwind of a series this is, adventure, romance, magic, mystery and a darkling or two. What more could you want?!

Leigh Bardugo entices us into her Grisha world and keeps her claws tightly inside us making it hard to leave, not that we would want to leave. If you have seen the Netflix series and loved it these books are the ones for you to read. Personally I prefer to read the books first and then see the film/ series but with this I watched the series and then read all three books.

This beautifully written book is one you will have to fight to put down, Leigh writes effortlessly making this a easy read at just 308, 381 and 350 pages these books can easily be a weeks worth of reading if not more if you are a slower reader. When I read this book I struggled to put it down as I just wanted more and more from every page. In total I read these books in just under three weeks, for that I would defiantly rate this trilogy at a 5 star.

Now onto the books themselves. Our main protagonist 'Alina' goes through a lot during these three books. If you want a book where they is major character growth this is the one for you. Alina grows from a timid junior cartographer's assistant to something much much more powerful. Deception, fear, romance, heartache the list of themes goes on and on as these books develop. Throughout this series Alina isn't alone for she has her childhood tracker friend 'Mal' who is there with her throughout these amazing books. So not only do you see Alina grow you also see Mal and how their relationship builds along with them. I am very excited to see where Netflix takes this trilogy in season 2!

This series is appropriate for all readers above the age of 13 (in my opinion) can’t have the younger audience spooked by winged dark creatures now can we?

Trigger Warnings: Animal death, sexual exploitation.

Happy Reading!
