Book 3 Of The Year

I had the absolute pleasure of reading this book in advance in order to leave a review, when the eARC came through on my Book Fennel app I was very excited as Beauty and the Beast is my favourite fairy tale/Disney film so I was curious to see how Grayson had adapted it to fit gangsters...I was not disappointed!

My favourite time period out of them all for me is Medieval and Victorian. I am a very old fashioned kind of person who dreams of nothing more than walking around in beautiful gowns all day and courting the old fashioned way with getting permission from a parent/family member for marriage. *Cough cough* I'm getting a bit carried away, lets get back to the book now shall we?

Ok so imagine a traditional Victorian wedding but plot twist...the bride is planning on killing the groom. Contessa (Connie) our fiery protagonist is determined, stubborn and likes to win at chess (ha this sounds oddly familiar) leads this book in all of its glorious twists and turns of the streets of London. Nathaniel (Nate/Beast) our scarred gentleman of the novel with a twisted dark side which we don't find out until much later in the novel. It is very much a Peaky Blinders twist with a dash of Bridgerton which I just adore. I was sent a little bookish gift from the amazing S.C. Grayson which arrived after a stressful day of teaching, inside a mysterious black envelope was a little thank you letter from the amazing author herself as well as a themed bookmark and character art of Connie and Nate.

What I loved about this book was how Grayson built the world that this book is set in, as common as it is to us readers being Victorian London there are still plenty of twists along the way which also makes it unfamiliar to us. This book has a a spicy scene which I think is written beautifully and really shows how things change how the story goes on, the character development I find is what makes this book. I do love all of the twists and turns that Grayson plants throughout the chapters.

I was recommended S.C. Grayson by a friend and I am so pleased she recommended her to me, this book is everything I imagined and so much more. Can not wait to purchase a physical copy and display it proudly on my bookcase.

This amazing novel hits the shelves the 26th January 2023, so what are you waiting for? Buy it!!
